Live Podcast Weekend with Adoption: The Making of Me

    by bkjax August 4, 2025

Louise Browne and Sarah Reinhardt are bringing their popular podcast, Adoption: The Making of Me, to life in Washington, D.C. this September.

This event is a chance to gather in person with adoptees, authors, advocates, and listeners to share stories, ask hard questions, and connect around the experience of adoption.

This is the third live event they’ve done, starting with Kansas City in 2024 and Atascadero, CA earlier this year.

Friday evening kicks off with a screening of Because She’s Adopted, a documentary by Kristal Parke, followed by a casual meet-up with food and conversation at a local restaurant.

Saturday is a full day of programming. Susan Kiyo Ito kicks off the day with her solo show The Ice Cream Gene. Shortly after, the live podcast with guest Dr. Abigail Hasberry will take place, followed by a panel of prominent voices in the community:

    • Gabrielle Glaser, author of American Baby
    • A.M. Homes, author of The Mistress’s Daughter
    • Gregory Luce, Adoptee Rights Law Center
    • Ken DeStefano, I Will See You Again
    • Susan Kiyo Ito, I Would Meet You Anywhere
    • Kristal Parke, Because She’s Adopted
    • Monica Hall, Practically Still a Virgin
    • Megan Culhane Galbraith, The Guild of the Infant Saviour: An Adopted Child’s Memory Book
    • Sandi Morgan Caesar, Transnational Adoptee Support Group

Dr. Liz DeBetta will close the day with her powerful one-woman show Un-M-Othered. Damon Davis, host of Who Am I Really?, will emcee the event and moderate the panel discussion.

On Saturday night, there will be an informal off-site gathering, and Sunday morning there will be an optional casual breakfast for anyone who wants to keep the conversation going.

This weekend is for adoptees, supporters, parents, and anyone curious about adoption and identity.

These stories matter, and there’s something powerful about being in the same room together.

    Location:

Sitar Arts Center, 1700 Kalorama Road Northwest #101, Washington, DC 20009

    Tickets: Eventbrite.

Get more information on the event at the podcast website or on Instagram. And you can find Sarah on Substack and Instagram. Look for Louise on Substack and Instagram.
